I Educated from King Edward Medical College, and went to England for my postgraduate training in Psychiatry. I entered psychiatric training in Britain in 1984 and became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists London (MRCPsych) in 1987.
I have returned to my roots in Lahore, whilst remaining in touch with my practices in Britain and currently working as a Professor of Psychiatry and senior consultant psychiatrist both in the academia and in the private sector therefore have extensive experience in psychiatry since 1984 extending over approximately 39 years both in Pakistan and internationally.
I have been a Consultant Psychiatrist/ Associate professor in Psychiatry in various teaching hospitals in Pakistan. I was the Head of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Sciences before I left for England once again.
I have worked as a consultant psychiatrist in England for the last 21 years. I have worked in General adult psychiatry at Cheshire & Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in Cheshire for about 11 years.
My work at the consultant level has been appraised in Britain for the last 20 years through the local trusts and the Royal College of Psychiatrists 360 Degree Appraisal System. I have scored above the 90th percentile for core professional attributes, in relationship to patients, colleagues and with the multidisciplinary team.
I have worked as an appraiser and conducted appraisals of other senior consultant-level colleagues in UK.
My experience in psychiatry is diverse across and is spread over various aspects of general adult, old age, Substance misuse, child psychiatry, and Learning disability.
I have been involved in developing substance misuse services with assistance from a WHO funded project at King Edward medical college Lahore and have vast international experience in treating substance misuse.
I was the clinical lead for the psychiatric intensive care unit in Yorkshire England and responsible for liaising with the low secure psychiatric services in patient services. I have experience of working with forensic patients within the community and prison population
I have many years of consultant level experience in Britain of team leadership, collaborative work, service development, innovation and delivery. This is both within the community mental health team settings as well as within inpatient models. I have been involved in developing single point of access for service users in community mental health teams.
I have taught in various medical schools at an undergraduate and post graduate level for about 10 years and have been a lecturer, supervisor, trainer and examiner for medical education.
I held the position of the Royal College of Psychiatrist Clinical tutor post, for core trainees in psychiatry with the Northwest and Mersey deanery for 5 years.
I remain actively involved in training and recruitment of psychiatric trainees and assist applicants applying to national recruitment schemes within NHS England.
I have fulfilled the role as an educational supervisor for psychiatric trainees in Britain and have been the consultant sponsor in various overseas consultant sponsorship schemes.
I am active in continuous professional development and currently in good standing for CPD with The Royal College of Psychiatrists for many years.
I have many publications to my credit in in peer reviewed journals and regularly present papers in conferences.
I have been involved with University of Manchester in delivering and developing services in Southeast Asia, as part of Global Mental Health Initiative, Stigma reduction in mental health, areas of preventative psychiatry, prison mental health, and developing substance misuse services.
I am Approved by the secretary of state under section 12 (2) under the Mental Health Act 1983 for the past 21 years as having specialist training and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders .
I work as an expert witness in assisting the courts in preparing medicolegal reports for patients suffering from severe and enduring mental illness, who may or may not have committed crimes.
I was selected as the Medical Member for Tier 2 Tribunal Mental Health Services.
I have many years’ experience of medico-legal work, both for the NHS and within the private sector in providing high quality, focused, timely psychiatric reports for patients suffering from severe and enduring mental health problems who are in contact the justice system. I work in liaison with various solicitor organisations, criminal justice system in, civil, family matters, criminal cases and immigration matters. I have received training from Bond Salon (a legal training consultancy) in excellence in written evidence.
I have many years of experience of working within the private sector and providing private psychiatric consultancy both in Manchester King Street and Harley Street in London.
